Fircom's COVID-19 Notice #2

Dear Friends of Fircom, 

We wish to assure you that we are taking the current COVID-19 situation very seriously and are alert to information being shared by various levels of government and our local and provincial health authorities. Here at camp we have diligently implemented the preventative health and hygiene practices that we shared with you in a communication that was emailed to our Fircom community and posted on Social Media on Friday, March 13. As a result, our site continues to be a safe and healthy place for staff, volunteers and the small group that we hosted this week. 

Effective today, Thursday, March 19th, we will be suspending our operations (which includes hosting rental groups and facilitating programming) until a tentative re-opening date of Tuesday, April 14th. We are aware that the circumstances of this unprecedented situation are changing rapidly, and we will continue to adhere to the recommendations and decisions made by our local and provincial health authorities, as well as The United Church of Canada.

For rental groups and participants registered in any of our Camp Fircom programs later in the Spring or Summer, we ask that you be patient and work in partnership with us to assess the need to postpone or cancel a booking as we move closer to the planned arrival or start date. This situation continues to evolve, and we want to remain optimistic and hopeful that short-term measures such as social-distancing and travel bans succeed in limiting the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Our proposal is that a member of our leadership team will contact a group’s organizer two weeks prior to the group’s anticipated arrival at camp to decide, based on the current COVID-19 information and circumstance, if it is a viable and responsible decision to proceed with the booking. The same two-week timeframe will apply to the notice we will give participants if we need to cancel our Camp Fircom-led programs.
