Fircom's Summer Camp Update
Dear Fircom Summer Camp Families,
We are writing to you in the spirit of hope and optimism that we will be able to operate our summer camp programs in July and August 2020. We have a core team of awesome individuals who are continuing to work and live in community at camp (don’t worry, we are caring for ourselves and doing our part to ‘flatten the curve’!).
We are committed to preparing our site and facilities for the season, so that when our local and provincial health authorities give approval for us to gather as a larger community, we will be ready to welcome you all to camp. As well, we are already thinking creatively about how camp could happen in modified ways that stay true to our mission of creating communities of belonging and experiences to grow on. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
While we have set the intention to operate this summer, we also realize that we need to be realistic about the fact that the situation regarding COVID-19 is changing day by day. If by June 15th, 2020, our local and provincial health authorities have not given approval for organizations such as camps to safely and responsibly operate, we will offer two options for registered campers:
We can hold the deposit paid for the 2020 camp session and ‘roll over’ registration to the equivalent summer 2021 camp session; or,
We can issue a full refund of fees paid.
Due to the uncertainty of this unprecedented situation, we are also deferring full payment of camper registration fees to June 15th, 2020 (the original deadline was April 15th, 2020). We recognize that many families will experience financial hardship over the coming months. When it comes time to pay camper registration fees in full, please reach out to us about the possibility of applying for a subsidy from our campership fund. We cannot guarantee that we will have funds available for everyone that needs financial assistance, but we will do our best to support families as best as we can.
We look forward to welcoming you to our magical site this summer, so that together we can share our appreciation of good health and the simple things in life, as well as create new memories that will fill our hearts and help us grow as a community.
With warm wishes for togetherness from a social distance,
Terra McKenzie Marissa Gilmour
