Fircom's COVID-19 Notice #6

Dear Friends of Fircom,

It has been a difficult week for our Leadership Team, as we had to share with our camp families on Wednesday that based on the direction of Dr. Bonnie Henry and the BC Camping Association, we have had to cancel all summer camp programs scheduled at Camp Fircom from July through August. We are heartbroken that we won’t be able to create the magic of camp this summer, as we know how important the camp experience is for our campers. Please know this decision was not made lightly. Given this unprecedented situation, we know that cancelling summer camp is the most responsible choice to protect the health and safety of the children and youth in our Fircom community.

Our Leadership team has been working tirelessly on ‘reimagining’ what a summer at Fircom could look like, where members of our Fircom Community could still enjoy time at camp safely and without losing that sense of ‘Fircom magic’. We are proud to say that we are in the final stages of preparing a plan that will allow families an opportunity to connect with nature on our beautiful property, participate in some traditional camp activities and eat some delicious and nutritious meals … all in a safe and healthy way!

Over the next week, we will be solidifying our COVID-19 Safety Plan for our summer offering of vacation rentals and inclusive vacation packages. We will have two-night weekend stays and three-night weekday stays available, as well as three-night stays on long weekends. We will also have the opportunity to bridge a mid-week and weekend stay to create a six-night experience at camp. Our hope is to begin hosting families the weekend of June 19th (provided BC has moved into Phase 3 of the Restart Plan) and to operate weekend and mid-week vacation rentals and inclusive rental packages through to the middle of September.

Each accommodation will be for one family only, or for a maximum of two families who are coming together and are already sharing a ‘social bubble’. Families will have the opportunity to participate in several camp activities during their time at Fircom. Most activities (i.e., guided hike, tie dye and archery) will be included in the cost of the rental/package. A one-hour canoe session will be available at an additional cost. Food service in our covered, open-air breezeway will be offered as part of a package for families staying in cabins or Sibley tents (with tables physically distanced, of course!).

More information about our ‘reimagined’ summer at Camp Fircom, including the specific measures we will be taking to keep families and staff safe and healthy at camp, will be shared on our website and social media, as well as in our newsletter, by the end of next week. Online registration will begin early the following week, with an opportunity for families who had been registered in one of our 2020 summer programs to register before the general public.

We hope that you will consider Camp Fircom as an option for your family vacation this summer. Our site, facilities and program areas are ready for you and we are very excited about having you join us here at camp!!!

With warm wishes for good health,

The Fircom Leadership Team & Board of Directors
