Camp Fancy was a Success!
We hosted Camp Fancy at Fircom last Saturday. After months of preparation, there we were hosting almost 100 staff, alumni, friends, and family. It was an incredible day to share with everyone.
As the Camp Registrar the day was especially special for me. I have the honour of administering Camp Fircom’s campership fund. This subsidy program ensures that campers and families facing financial barriers can still come to camp. Camp Fancy is our biggest campership fundraiser of the year.
The morning began as our guests boarded water taxis in Horseshoe Bay and came over the camp. Upon arriving they walked into camp and were welcomed by Margo. Every attendee got to choose from a wide variety of workshops and activities. Josh Keller was leading kinetic wood sculpture making in the crafts room in Jubilee Hall. Matt Carpenter led a group through ink painting while listening to chilled out tunes in Jubilee Hall, while Daphne Woo led wood bead bracelet making in Craigcroft.
I had the privileged of being the day’s amateur photographer and checking out all of these amazing workshops. Additionally, volunteers and staff led activities for kids as well as canoeing, site tours, archery and axe-throwing.
Under sunny skies, smiles were everywhere and it was great as old friend reunited and new guests met new people.
Overall we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Sunshine, amazing people, and a completely successful event. Through ticket sales, donations, silent & live auctions, and a 50/50 raffle we raised $11,000 for the campership fund. That money will directly support sending kids to camp this summer - and nothing makes be happier than being able to share the magic of camp with kids.
I can’t wait to see so many of the same faces at Camp Fancy 2020!
