Fircom Spring Challenge 2017
You are invited to join us for the fifth annual, Fircom Spring Challenge; a one day hiking adventure that raises monies to make summer camp financially accessible for all children and families. Last year, we moved the hike off Gambier Island and it was met with great success so we are continuing this year with another Lower Mainland hike.
When and where is it happening?
This year's Spring Challenge is on Saturday, June 3. We'll meet at 10:00 am at the north end of the Cypress Mountain downhill skiing parking lot.
Who can participate?
Just about anyone! You need to be able to hike for about 5 hours, and commit to fundraising $200 for Fircom. We ask that anyone under 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Kids are welcome, as long as they're proven hikers.
What does the day look like?
Once we arrive at the parking lot, we’ll all get acquainted with each other and our route map before we set off. We’ll edge around some ski runs until we get onto the Howe Sound Crest Trail and then we’ll hike through meadows until we come to a series of switch backs. It will all be worth it for the summit’s spectacular views of the Howe Sound and Coast Mountains. We’ll even get to see camp in the distance!
The hike is about 5 hours, and challenging but manageable for most folks. It is listed as an intermediate hike that is 11 km long with a 460 metre elevation gain. We'll be accompanied the whole way by first-aid trained staff. Once we return triumphantly to the Cypress Mountain Lodge, we'll enjoy a meal and drink together in celebration.
How does the fundraising work?
Participants commit to seek pledges from their friends, families, and colleagues. To participate, individuals need to commit to raising $200 or perhaps you are a couple or family that want to fundraise that amount together. We will help you with pointers on how to connect with your community; template emails, feature you on Fircom’s social media, etc. $200 sounds like a lot, but we know once you get going, you'll surprise yourself at how easy it is to fundraise for a cause you believe in. All the money we raise in the Gambier Grind goes directly to helping kids and families who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it to come to camp. We hear every year from these families how important Fircom is in their lives.
For some extra motivation, we're offering some prizes. The top fundraiser will win a weekend stay in the beautiful 12-person Cottage and the 2nd top fundraiser will win an off-season weekend in the cozy 4-person Farmhouse.
Sounds great! How do I sign up?
