Program Manager - Job Description

The Program Manager will provide year-round leadership to the summer camp and outdoor school operations and ensure that program delivery is in alignment with the guiding principles of the camp. They will recruit, hire, train and supervise 30 summer staff and  numerous contract staff for outdoor school.  They maintain all camp relationships with community members, suppliers, industry partners, BC Camping Association, and United Church Camping contacts.

 Reporting to the Executive Director, the PM assures delivery of high-quality experiences for campers, students, schools,  parents, and renters. The PM manages all aspects of Fircom’s outdoor school bookings and summer camp programs (kids, mom & kids, dad & kids, family, youth leadership).  Depending on the variety of bookings within a year, the PM may lead relationships with some children/youth rental groups. 

 This position focuses on camp development and camper care  through ensuring staff and volunteers are well trained and highly effective in the delivery of programs and services. The PM will develop program and activity training modules that can be utilized by all departments (summer camp, outdoor school and rentals). The PM will work closely with the Rental Manager to review and improve programming options for rental groups and train the rental staff team in delivery. The PM will work with the Executive Director and Rentals Manager to plan and execute marketing strategies to meet their departments targets.

 This role will stay at camp for a majority of their time May to September – however the schedule allows for breaks working in the city office throughout.  October, March and April, the PM will be on site part-time opening and closing camp. November to February will work full-time out of the Vancouver office.
